The Nashoba Youth Basketball League is an instructional youth basketball league for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8. The league is currently comprised of teams from Berlin, Bolton, Harvard, Lancaster, Maynard and Stow. The goal of the league is to promote youth basketball in a fun, safe and instructional format for the kids to learn and play.

In the 2006-2007 season the NYBL had 49 teams, 360 players and over 100 coaches and coordinators. The season was capped by an exciting two day playoff tournament held at the Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton. The 2012-2013 season now has 80 teams and almost 900 players.

The Season:   The playing season starts on December 1st and runs into the middle of March. Games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Playoffs are held on one weekend in mid-March. Practices are held once a week, typically a weeknight and are held at local school gyms starting at the beginning of November.

The Philosophy:  The primary intent of this league is to teach the boys and girls the fundamentals of basketball. This is an instructional league focused on fundamentals development, individual skills, team play, strategies and playing to win. The goal is to have every player in the program develop their skills and knowledge of the game through practice, instruction and play. While it is an equal playing time league it is also a competitive league and every player will find their skills and abilities tested during game play.

The League:  This league was developed as a local alternative to other "travel" leagues in the area which, true to their name, required significant travel to towns relatively far away. This is a growing and prospering league in our towns, in our Nashoba region. In addition to this league Nashoba Basketball supports and sponsors players in spring AAU and summer basketball leagues.

The Teams:  There are separate boys and girls divisions in the 3rd-4th, 5th-6th and 7th-8th grade levels for a total of 6 divisions. Teams are comprised of 8-12 players of equal talent. This is a no-cut league, all players will  be on a team and will play. The players are equally distributed based upon skill levels across the teams so all teams are equal. This is true for each town in the league.

The Games:  Games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Games are played in the local gyms of neighboring towns including Bolton, Lancaster, Harvard, Maynard, Stow, Clinton and Berlin. Games are one hour long and are officiated by two certified refs. Playoffs for the 5th-6th and 7th-8th divisions are single-elimination and are played over two days tournament style at the NRHS.
